Dr. Richard Gestring founded Empower Psych Centers in 2015 with the goal to break down barriers that prevent mental health and substance abuse treatment, and to empower those who otherwise might not get the help they need. By acknowledging the broad spectrum of issues within the field, he strives to provide the most up-to-date evidence-based treatments along with tailoring an individualized plan to help with their struggles and begin moving towards a more adaptive future. Dr. Gestring and his staff are determined to empower individuals by giving them the tools and support to strive, progress and ultimately maintain recovery.

Dr. Gestring graduated with his Doctor of Medicine in 2009 from American University of Antigua College of Medicine, then completed his residency with Vidant Medical Center at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine in 2014.

His interests in the mental health field originate from his life experiences, including his deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Sergeant (retired) in the US-Army. Currently while maintaining his private practice, Dr. Gestring also provides treatment at Harris House Treatment and Recovery Center, CenterPointe Hospital and Hyland Behavioral Health at St. Anthony’s Medical Center.
